Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data First Mile collects, why we collect it, the legal grounds we rely on, and the choices and rights you have. We do not sell your data. Ever.
First Mile Runner ("we", "us") is the data controller responsible for your personal data. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described in this policy, email support@firstmilerunner.com (or delete@firstmilerunner.com for account deletion).
Account information. Your email, display name, date of birth, and (optionally) sex. We need email to sign you in via one-time code and to deliver receipts; the other fields power age-group leaderboards and recommended programs.
Workout activity. Distance, duration, pace, heart rate (if you grant access), location traces, and the program/workout you ran. This is the core data the app is built around.
Device information. OS version, app version, device model, and locale. Used to debug crashes and ship platform-appropriate fixes.
Under the GDPR and similar laws, we rely on the following legal bases:
GPS traces are stored on your device and on our servers as part of each workout record. They are visible only to you and (in aggregate, anonymized) to the leaderboard ranking system. If you delete a workout, its GPS trace is deleted at the same time.
If you grant Apple Health or Google Fit access, the app reads heart rate, step count, and calorie estimates during workouts. This data stays on your device unless you explicitly share a workout (e.g. to the leaderboard); the server never receives raw health samples.
These providers process data on our behalf under contracts that require them to protect it. No other third parties receive personal data.
Our servers are located in the United States. If you use First Mile from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, your data is transferred to and processed in the US. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses to protect that transfer.
You can manage your data directly in the app:
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or a region with similar laws, you also have the right to: access a copy of your data; correct inaccurate data; erase your data; restrict or object to processing; receive your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing already carried out). To exercise any of these, email support@firstmilerunner.com — we respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Workout data is retained as long as your account exists. After account deletion, all personal data is erased within 7 days. Backups containing your data roll out of our retention window within 35 days.
First Mile is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the minimum digital-consent age in their country (13 in the United States; between 13 and 16 across the EEA, depending on the country). If you believe a child has provided us data, email support@firstmilerunner.com and we will delete it.
If we make material changes to this policy we'll notify you in the app the next time you open it. The current version is shown at the top of this screen.
